Property

A property (a.k.a. quality, trait, attribute) is a logical statement describing the important characteristics of a model, structure, element, connection, condition, or fact.

An example of a property is "assets is a debit".

Technical:

A property is an atom. Properties are used to construct molecules.

Note this information related to how to define properties published by XBRL International, Accounting Semantics Arcroles 1.0.

Commentary:

Properties tend to be defined by base reporting frameworks, not with report models. Properties that extend XBRL should be defined as XBRL definition relations, not using XML attributes.
